Wild Weather

A rather nasty spell of weather to greet the end of January. Driving rain, strong winds and cold too! Here’s rain sheeting down on the turbines at Burbo wind farm.

The OMD Phonebox in 2008

The from-Meols band OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark) wrote a song entitled Red Frame/White Light, with the inspiration being the phonebox in Greenwood Road.

Well here it is in all it’s glory in January 2008:

Still red framed with a white light:

Friends of Meols Parks

There are at least a couple of websites relating to Meols parks and open spaces.

Firstly, Friends of Hoylake and Meols have this site that doesn’t appear to have been updated in a long while (which is a shame - if you’re reading this and want some help to use a blog instead please get in touch via our Wirral search marketing company). The organisation promotes the public parks and open spaces that are located in both Hoylake and Meols.

Secondly, Friends of Meols Park have this site that was started in 2007 to promote the fund raising activities of a group of local parents who would like to see the popular Meols Park revamped.

Please do get in touch if you’re aware of other websites that promote good causes within the Meols area because I can mention on thig blog. For Hoylake causes you could always contact us on our Hoylake based sister site if you prefer.

Men At Work

Expect some disruption as Birkenhead Road receives some attention from tomorrow. The sign is a bit ambiguous …is it just two days work or more than a weeks worth?

New House in Gorse Road

It isn’t often that Meols sees a new house being built - but there currently is one. There’s a new build going up in Gorse Road. Not too much to see at the moment as only the footings are in.

Post Box On Wynstay Road

This is the post box on the corner of Wynstay Road and Meols Parade. As you can see the top is badly cracked - how long before the letters start getting wet?

Christingle Service at St Johns, Meols

Christmas Eve afternoon is the date for the annual Christingle Service at St John’s Church opposite Goose Green. The service is very popular with families from all around Meols - St Johns is typically packed.

Proceeds go to The Childrens Society.

Hello Meols!

Welcome to our Meols blog!

We’ve decided to put the domain name meols.org to good use by posting news about Meols, Wirral.

I’m John Cronin and I run a Wirral Search Marketing company, where we publish and maintain a portfolio of websites. I’ve lived in the Meols area for many a year now - in fact, for that long that I can remember the ladybird swarms that engulfed the prom years ago.

I hope that you find this blog interesting. Feel free to comment and please do subscribe to our free newsletter.

Cheers!
