Whilst trying to trace an uncle from Meols Drive, Eric Price, the photo brought back memorys, as a child, staying at my grandparents house in Forest Rd in the 40s. As a treat we used to be taken to visit "Bently's Ice Cream". for a treat.

It is nearly 40 years since I left Meols to study and 14 years since I have been back to the area on a regular basis as my father died in 1996 however I still think of it as home!!.

My brother introduced me to the Hoylake web site and I have followed the links to this the Meols web site.

I struggle at times to remember the places and roads that I once knew so well but I do remember I used to love the houses on Forest Road - I remember the "new houses" being built on Goose Green and how avant guarde they were thought to be - and of the old house that was presumeably demolished that was also a shop - but I digress - I thought I would add that I can remember knocking on a door and buying ice cream from the house/building that is that mentioned. It always seemed special - looking back now I almost feel that we were buying it from someones back kitchen!!

Certainly through to the end of the fifties, the Price(?) family used that building for small building contractural work. The adjacent home to right of frame made and sold an excellent ice cream from the front door on a knock and ask basis. Think we used to call it Butterworths(?).

Forest Road Offices.
This building used to be a dairy, originally owned by a very old Meols family called price. it was then owned by Swaines who then sold it when they retired. It remained empty for some time and (I think I'm right in saying) it was sold by the first people living in the house next door, which was originally part of the propery. As said on the photo comments, it is now a small contractor's and an ironing service. Bill, Meols
