Friday Photo: Waste Pump Building

pump building

Just about every Meols resident will instantly recognise this building – the sewage waste pumping station on the common ground behind the promenade.

Despite being a local for many years I’ve never really understood what this building is for. Likewise the other one at the end of Dovepoint Road. Do both these buildings still house active sewage pumping equipment? Does the waste get pumped out to sea?

Feel free to update me.

Friday Photo: Trailer Park

boat trailers

Here we have a photo taken last Wednesday of the boat trailers parked up by Meols slipway at the top of Bennet’s Lane.

I’ve always liked this part of Meols for some reason. I was always riding around there on my bike as a young lad to watch the boats and the sea. I can remember the fishermen landing their catch and a woman selling fresh fish, wrapped in newspaper from the back of a white pickup truck. When did they stop doing that I wonder?

Friday Photo: Roman Road

Roman Road flood

Here’s a first photo in a new regular feature here on Meols.org – Friday Photo. I run the same feature on Hoylake Junction and there have been some great photos, so hopefully we’ll enjoy the same here.

I took the above photo yesterday morning – as you can see, it’s been raining hard in Meols ! Roman Road was a little bit flooded after the rainfall during the night. Nothing serious, though various roads in Meols, including Birkenhead Road around Ethelbert Road do seem to retain a volume of surface water.

Feel free to comment !

To recognise the fact that Meols beach has been awarded again in the good beach guide, a new flag pole and flag has been installed on the promenade.
